Parallel text books (also sometimes referred to as interlinear or bilingual or dual-language text books) are books in which each line of the original text that you would like to study is paired (word by word or in short semantic phrases) with translated words in a language that you already know.
You can think of them as a modern day Rosetta Stone - a powerful key for unlocking and learning new languages!
No, not always. Depending on language and concept, it can often be clearer to translate multiple words together as a phrase or short collection, we call these 'translation bundles'. For example, while the Finnish word sequence "sen sijaan", might be (naively) translated word for word (and incorrectly) as "it's | instead-of/in-place-of" we might prefer to simply translate the word pair as "instead"
We try to make the words in each translated sentence match those of the original sentence as literally and closely as possible, while also ideally keeping the translated sentence easily readable.
The goal is to read the text you are learning, referring to the translated text only as a hint within the sentence context, not as individual words.
